Property damage? Your first moves matter.
A calm, practical starting point for protecting your property and documenting a loss.

Start with safety
Keep people away from unsafe areas. For immediate danger, contact emergency services. Do not climb a damaged roof or enter a flooded building to take photographs.
Preserve the story
When safe, photograph the affected areas from wide and close angles. Record when you first noticed the damage, what happened and what you did next. Keep original photos and copies of receipts.
Protect the property and check your obligations
Review your policy’s duties after a loss and notify your insurer promptly as required. Take reasonable steps to prevent additional damage. Keep records of emergency work and avoid discarding evidence unnecessarily. Safety comes first.
Speak with someone on your side
A public adjuster can help inspect, document and estimate the loss and communicate with your carrier. Get advice early, but do not postpone required notice, emergency work or cooperation while arranging a consultation. Bring your policy and any claim correspondence to the review.
